Gale, Schwab Tally Multi-Point Games in Loss
MOLINE, Ill. – A three-goal second period for the Quad City Mallards was the difference on Friday night in their 5-3 win over the Denver Cutthroats at iWireless Center in front of 3,044 in attendance.
AJ Gale scored his 20th goal of the season to give the Cutthroats (18-12-3) a 3-2 lead 4:54 into period two, but the Mallards (14-15-3) responded just 14 seconds later to tie the game and pulled away with two more later in the frame.
Troy Schwab opened up the scoring in a back-and-forth opening period off a crossing pass from Gale in the right circle at 5:04. Derek Matheson knotted the game for the Mallards with a slap shot across the blueline with 7:09 to play, but Luke Fulghum put the Fish back out in front a minute later with a deflection goal in front of the net. Shayne Toporowski’s one-timer from the top of the right circle tied the game again with 1:29 left in the period and was the first of two power play goals in the game for the Mallards.
